Lecturer Mr. Hirofumi SHIMA

was born and raised in postwar Kyoto and later worked for a shipping company in Tokyo.
His grandparents and their three sons emigrated to Canada in turn around 1907. By the 1930s, however, they returned to Japan, except for one son who chose to remain in Canada. Around the time of his retirement in 2007, he learned that his uncle Shoichi had been a Vancouver Sun player, which prompted him to begin research and investigation of the Vancouver Sun.
Currently, at the request of the British Columbia Sports Hall of Fame, and with the cooperation of the families of Vancouver Asahi athletes and others involved, he continues to volunteer his time to search for athletes and families who have not been given Hall of Fame medals.
